At the end of season one, Karen, Hank’s ex-girlfriend, the mother of his daughter, and the love of his life, was marrying another man. Hank went to the wedding party, did a dance with Karen, said his congratulations, and there was a shot of Hank walking away alone. It was sad, because the whole season evolved around Hank trying to win Karen back, and now it seems everything is settled and there’s nothing else Hank can do. But all I can think of is that this is the best moment of the season, even though the show culminated with another sharp turn of event at the very end. That’s when I came to realize how much I enjoy a tragedy, and how little a happy ending could otherwise touch me.
